What technology do we use at Eugenomic?
At Eugenomic, we work with a range of technologies including electrophoresis, Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing (NGS), SNP microarrays, and real-time PCR. The technique or combination of techniques is selected based on the type of study being conducted.
-
What scientific evidence supports your tests?
Our selection of genetic markers is always based on data from scientific publications. We require that any marker we use shows a clear effect and has been described by multiple independent research studies reaching the same conclusions, or has demonstrated its predictive value in a clinical trial.
-
Does Eugenomic provide support to doctors in interpreting genetic results?
Yes, Eugenomic offers support to healthcare professionals in interpreting genetic results. Our team provides clinical guidance to help integrate the findings into patient care, ensuring that the information is understandable, relevant, and actionable for medical decision-making.
-
What type of information is included in Eugenomic’s result reports?
Our reports are clear and detailed. They include individualized genetic analysis, clinical interpretation of the findings, implications for the patient’s health, and practical recommendations based on the available scientific evidence.
-
How does Eugenomic support the clinical applicability of genetic tests?
Each Eugenomic report is designed to be a clinical tool. We provide specific recommendations, alerts about potential risks, personalized therapeutic suggestions, and support for physicians to integrate genetic information into their routine practice.
-
Is genetic data confidential?
All patient information, including both genetic and personal data, is handled with absolute confidentiality. Apart from Eugenomic and the processing laboratory, only the healthcare professional authorized by the patient can access the data.
-
Is DNA preserved or destroyed?
The sample and the DNA extracted from it are temporarily stored in case additional or confirmatory tests are requested. Samples are destroyed one to two years after collection, but if the patient requests it, destruction can be carried out at any time.
-
Who has access to genetic data?
Access to genetic data is restricted to authorized Eugenomic personnel and the processing laboratory, as it is essential to provide the requested service—and, of course, to the patient. If the genetic test was prescribed by a healthcare professional and the patient does not state otherwise, the genetic data will also be available to that professional.
-
How do you protect patients’ genetic and personal data?
All information is protected in accordance with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The data is stored on our server, which is accessible only to authorized Eugenomic users through authenticated access. Results are delivered exclusively via the email addresses specified by the patient, and any hand-delivered results are given only to the test holder. If the patient wishes another person to access their information, they must provide explicit written authorization.
-
What is Pharmacogenetics?
Pharmacogenetics is the science that studies how drugs act and interact in ways that can affect each person differently, depending on their genes. We are all genetically unique, and a medication that works for one person may not be effective for another—whether due to the drug itself or the required dosage.
-
In which medical specialties are Eugenomic’s pharmacogenetic tests applied?
Our profiles are applicable in cardiology, psychiatry, oncology, internal medicine, and other areas.
-
What is genomic medicine?
Genomic medicine is a medical discipline that uses each person’s DNA information to prevent diseases, optimize treatments, and improve health in a personalized way.
By studying genetic variations, this approach helps identify predispositions to various conditions, anticipate future risks, and tailor drug therapies to make them more effective and safer.
-
What’s the difference between a preventive medicine genetic test and a diagnostic test?
Preventive medicine genetic tests, like those offered by Eugenomic, identify predispositions and future risks, while diagnostic tests confirm diseases that are already present.
-
Do the genetic results from genomic medicine tests serve as a diagnostic tool?
Most of our tests are not intended for diagnostic purposes; in other words, the information they provide does not determine whether a person currently has a disease. However, we do offer genetic tests that are 100% diagnostic for certain conditions or genetic traits, such as lactose intolerance or Gilbert’s syndrome, for example.
If you have any doubts about whether a specific test is diagnostic or not, feel free to contact us at +34 93 292 29 63.
-
What is the clinical applicability of genomic medicine genetic tests?
Genomic medicine genetic tests have broad clinical applicability. They help identify genetic predispositions to diseases, optimize prevention strategies, personalize treatments, and anticipate risks before symptoms appear.
At Eugenomic, our genetic profiles are designed for daily clinical practice in specialties such as integrative medicine, gynecology, cardiology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine, among others.
