An expression profile describeswhat genesare expressed in the sample studied, and at what intensity. The study of expression profile can be for groups of genes or for the whole genome. The cDNA or oligonucleotide microarrays are very useful in these studies because they allow large amounts of tests to be done in a single test. The expression profile studies the response of cells to certain stimuli or find associations between tumor characteristics and specific expression profiles.
